Vintage and classic vehicle enthusiasts are set to descend on Kersey Mill this weekend with hundreds of vehicles set to be on display.

Visitors to the free Drive It Day event will have the chance to view the vehicles, tour the historic watermill, as well as enjoy the gardens and grounds.

The exhibit also includes steam cars, sports cars, and action cars that have appeared in movies.

Alison de Lara-Bell, owner of Kersey Mill, said: “We host major automotive groups who show up in their cars, as well as prestige and classic cars. We had them arrive in car boxes, it’s very special. This year we are expecting a huge number of cars, from Minis to Morgans and more.

Ms de Lara-Bell added: “Last year’s event was a record year with over 300 cars on display.

“We also had over 1,500 visitors that year. The atmosphere is quite special, with groups racing and roaring one after another. Some car groups have up to 50 cars.”

Miller’s Kitchen will be serving refreshments, bacon rolls, cakes and BBQ treats.

The national event called One Thousand Mile Trial has been held at various locations every year since 1900. The exhibition was used to prove the viability of the new invention such as a motor car.

Thousand Mile Trial started in London and then followed the route to, among other places, Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester. For the past six years the people of Ipswich and surrounding areas have enjoyed the classic and vintage car show.

Kersey Mill held its first Drive It Day gathering in 2016 and quickly became a popular venue for vintage and classic car meetups.

The event also marks the start of the season for prestige and vintage motorists.
