Aaditya Thackeray, Maharashtra’s Minister of Tourism and Environment, announced the ‘Annual Vintage Car Fiesta 2022’ at the World Trade Center in Mumbai on Sunday.
A total of 117 classic cars and 66 two-wheelers took part in the rally organized by the Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) and the Vintage & Classic Car Club of India (VCCCI). The event was also supported by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation.

In line with the Minister’s announcement last year regarding the opening of a vintage car museum in Mumbai, Nitin Dossa, Chairman of WIAA/VCCCI, said: “It is high time for Mumbai to get its museum of old cars. Dossa said Mumbai can have a vintage car museum with 100 cars and 50 two-wheelers. “It will attract foreign tourists and our next generation will see what cars we have today, because every car is a different car,” he added. Among the collection of cars were seven Rolls Royces, five Cadillacs and three Continental Lincolns, including Pope John Paul’s Lincoln. The 1984 Audi-100 of Ravi Shastri, the 1935 Bentley sports coupe-derby of Jagdish Thackersey, the 1948 Lincoln Continental V-12, the 1964 Cadillac convertible of Viveck Goenka, WIAA/VCCCI president and president of the Indian Express group, have also participated in the rally. Jimmy Tata’s 1967 Dodge Charge was also present at the event.
Several vintage and classic cars made appearances at the event, including the 1927 Duesenberg Model A of Gautam Singhania, MD of Raymond Group, which was also the oldest car to finish the race. The show also featured a 1923 La France Type 12 American fire truck and Hormusji Cama’s 1936 Lanchester which also won the Conour Award for Elegance Vintage car.
From the World Trade Center, many classic cars passed through Mantralaya-Chowpatty-Peddar Road-Worli Sealink. A few others took a short tour and returned to the WTC to present their prized possessions.
Of the two-wheeler lineup, the oldest bike to complete the race was Jehangir Faroogh’s 1927 AJS. Others included Reban Solomon’s 1955 BSA, Jamshed Maraolia’s 1954 BSA B33, and Xereus Zend’s 1973 Norton Commando MK2.
Minoo N Fittar received the Lifetime Achievement Award. SS Dhabolkar, also dubbed the “grandfather of the vintage car movement in India”, was also present with his 1933 Austin 6.
In an interesting contrast, students from DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering also showcased their Formula-race style electric racing car at the motor show.
