A local car enthusiast saw her dreams come true thanks to a special birthday surprise from her family.

Marlies Brassington, from Barton, Staffordshire, dreamed of riding a Jensen Interceptor again, after falling in love with the model when she first drove one aged 18.

Thanks to her daughter, Victiora Ann Spencer-Kibble, of King’s Bromley in Staffordshire, Marlies’ wish came true on her 74th birthday.

Mom-of-two Vicky focused on random acts of kindness every day in January, and to celebrate her beloved mother’s birthday, she decided to hit up the Jensen Interceptor Facebook group to see if they could help her make that dream a reality.

Dave Poole stepped forward to offer his purple Jensen Interceptor, which he restored during the pandemic, to driver Marlies to and from his birthday meal with his three children and four grandchildren.

Vicky said: “My mum is my whole world – I absolutely adore her. She so deserved to have this dream come true. She was always there for me.

“She came in when I lost my first husband and then again when I almost lost my own life to a virus, so I just wanted to thank her, as long as I can, because tomorrow is not never guaranteed.

“The first thing she said was how much she loved the color purple and later that day she messaged me to say she still felt like she was in the amazing Jensen and how wonderful the experience was.

“It put a huge smile on his face, and I can’t thank Dave enough for making it a reality.

“It was an amazing day. What a wonderful man to give his time for a complete stranger. He’s an absolute legend – a real kindness.

The Jensen Interceptor certainly caused a stir around Lichfield as it took the A38 and traveled in convoy with an orange jeep and a red Mustang, owned by other family members.

Dave Poole, from Middlewich, Cheshire, said: “It was an honor and a privilege to be able to drive Marlies on her 74th birthday in her favorite car.

“It has as much character and punch as the Jensen! His reaction to seeing the car is now ingrained in my memory.

“I won’t be able to pop the hood again without seeing her hug him like an old friend.”

“Amazing family, who I was lucky enough to help make a dream come true for their mum. What a fabulous day – one I won’t long forget!”
