A 25-year-old man from Ceres died early Thursday morning after crashing the classic car he was driving on Kiernan Avenue.

The crash happened around 4 a.m. when a westbound Honda sedan slowed down at a red light in Tully Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Behind the Honda was a 1973 Datsun Coupe driven by the 25-year-old, who failed to slow down in time and rolled the Honda backwards, the CHP said.

About a minute after this collision, another westbound vehicle did not stop in time and struck the rear of the Datsun.

Datsun’s driver was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries in the collision, according to the CHP. He was taken to Doctors Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries. He allegedly suffered fatal injuries in the first accident, according to the CHP.

He was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office Thursday afternoon as Andrew Avalos, 25. The CHP initially said he was from Modesto, but the coroner’s office said he was from Ceres.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.
