Citroën Ami will be marketed in 2022
Citroën has confirmed that its electric city car Ami will be launched in the UK in spring 2022, following strong demand for the niche model.
The automaker says it has received more than 12,000 expressions of interest from UK customers for the Ami after its European debut.
Reservations are now being accepted on Citroën’s website, for £ 250.
The two-seater is expected to cost between £ 5,000 and £ 6,000 when it arrives in showrooms, although subscription offers are also likely to be offered.
As the Ami was originally destined for France, the car is left-hand drive and will remain so when it hits UK roads. Drivers will need a full UK driving license.
It is equipped with a 5.5 kWh battery that offers a range of up to 46 miles and can be recharged in three hours. The car, which is largely plastic, can reach speeds of 28 mph.
With a length of only 2.41 meters, the Ami is designed for use in urban areas. It has room for a driver, a passenger and a small piece of luggage.
The interior of the car is equipped with a heating system and a smartphone holder, as well as basic controls for lights and wipers. A type 2 charging socket will be installed on the British Friends.
Eurig Druce, CEO of Citroën UK, said: “With cities and urban areas introducing stricter limits for vehicles and people demanding new mobility solutions, AMI is once again showing how Citroën is adapting to meet the demands of the time. Citroën AMI is a completely unique new all-electric mobility solution for the UK – fun, exciting and accessible to everyone. “
