A very astute 17-year-old Redditor shared the realistic mechanical model of a wooden car he designed and built in about 300 hours over a 6-month period. Oh, and he did it with just $ 35. It is a RWD 3-speed manual transmission with a V8.

What you are seeing is a grade 11 physics project that was designed to have better chances in college or job interviews. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that he will crush those interviews.

You can watch the car in motion from here, it’s just amazing.

He has been working with wood since the age of 4

Lithuanian high school student managed to do this project thanks to his “overwhelming desire to understand how stuff works and to do stuff”. Apparently he’s been working with wood since he was 4, watching a lot of Mythbusters, and thinking about how things are made.

In addition, he played a lot with LEGO gears and other technical parts.

He stated that he is interested in everything mechanical and has noticed that he can learn a lot of valuable knowledge in unrelated areas. His previous experience working on bicycles helped him build this car.

The process behind the design

In this video, he explains the process behind each component, and it’s just mind blowing.

Apparently the only person he got help from was his father. His father helped him remove a piece of wood from the engine block and taught him how to use the router to make the wheels. Other than that, this project is only her baby.

Working alone was the hardest part

According to an article he posted on Reddit, the most stressful part of the process was that he was alone the whole time. Since such a design was not present on the Internet, if there was a problem, it would have to deal with it on its own.

He said the gearbox was the hardest thing to design. He noted, “Different design concepts for the gearbox have been running through my mind for weeks. None of the components were that difficult to build because I spent a lot of time designing them correctly and in the end it was like following instructions. At any rate. , the clutch was probably the hardest. Lots of tweaks and mess involving the hydraulics were involved. ”

He will use the design for job interviews

When asked if he was interested in selling the current model, he said he plans to use this model for job interviews. Plus, he says he’s the only mechanic who knows how to work on the design. Apparently this requires maintenance and repairs, and he wouldn’t want to sell something that he knows could fail in the future.

We hope he gets an A + for this project because it would be crazy otherwise.
